...I believe students sometimes feel they don't like a subject because they don't do well in the subject. Once someone explains concepts and helps them solve problems on their own, they get excited, and slowly the confidence builds up. I have very often, if not most often, found that students who thought they could not understand course material, only could not understand the explanation that was given to this phantom composite character.
