### Finding f(x + (Delta x))

My Calculus summer assignment gave me this algebra problem.
"
Find f(x + (Delta x)) if f(x)=(x^2)-2x-3
"
I'm not sure how to work with Delta x so some tips would be great. I know it means the change in x, but I don't know how to implement that in the problem.

For convenience, replace $\Delta x$ with $y$ during the computations of the evaluation of the function $f$ at $x\, +\, \Delta x$. In other words, evaluate $f(x\, +\, y)$ using the same methods that you studied in your algebra course(s).

Oh, I understand now. Thank you!
