How many divisors?

Postby mattmattmatt » Thu May 29, 2014 12:59 am

I'm working on my first homework assignment for Discrete Math at school and the problem wants to know how many divisors 2^n has. We didn't talk about any of this in class, only using examples such as 24 or 100 and finding their divisors, so I'm completely stuck.

What is your book's definition for "divisors"? (Here is Wikipedia's def.) Like, are the divisors of 12 "1, 2, 3, 4, 6, and 12", or are they just the primes like "2 and 3"? Do negatives count, so "-2" and "+2" are both divisors? Thnx
